TOP-DOWN PROCESSING THEORY BY RICHARD GREGORY 1970: The theory that perception is a hypothesis based on past experiences and prior knowledge. Gregory argues that about 90% of visual information is lost by the time it arrives to the brain for processing; which leads to the creation of a perceptual hypothesis about the stimulus. This can result in the brain creating incorrect hypotheses leading to errors of perception. In this case, the brain incorrectly processes ONCE IN A A LIFETIME as ONCE IN A LIFETIME as we have prior knowledge that a noun generally follows a determiner.
